Configuration – Retail on the First Floor,

3 Bedroom at Second Floor  – 18 UNITS

2 Bedrooms on Third Floor- 6 UNITS

1 Bedroom at Third Floor – 8 UNITS

Located in Thatcher, Arizona, this project drew inspiration from the Pueblo revival architecture that defines the region and vernacular architecture.

The site planning is done strategically with parking and a plaza in the center and built-form around.

Adapting the Pueblo revival style, we aimed to modernize its architectural details.

Stepped Massing:

In alignment with Pueblo revival characteristics, we integrated stepped massing, introducing a taller block with adjacent smaller blocks. This concept is extended to the elevation, establishing a repeating different height facade. The intentional interplay of light and shadows further enhances the architectural depth of elements, contributing to a visually engaging and harmonious design.

With the stepped massing, we got the opportunity to make “ Open to Sky” Balconies.

With the 3 bedroom units on the second floor and 2 bedroom units stacked above them, we created the facade with open sky balconies.

Stucco & Wood Facade:

Maintaining the traditional earth-tone stucco, complemented by vernacular indigenous materials like stone and brick, resulted in a modern aesthetic. We used the Grey stucco along with exposed brick.

Simple Bold Openings:

While the Pueblo revival style favored smaller openings due to climate considerations, we adapted by suggesting larger window sizes for convenience store functionality. Low SHGC windows with double-glazed panels were proposed to minimize heat gain.

Contrasting Elements:

White vinyl windows on stucco create a striking contrast, defining the architecture with a bold and modern touch. They become an architectural element in themselves.
