Open Restaurant, Belgaum, India
A Place in the Shade:
We felt really lucky when we got the opportunity to design a Semi-open restaurant under the shade of Mango trees. Also the client was very open to the sustainable ideas that we proposed.
The project cherishes the use of natural stones like Jaisalmer, Kota stone and sadarhallis.

Besides this, the seating has also been created around mango trees at entrances which become the main focal point of the design.
The proposed pathways make the people walk through the trees and water bodies, and along the landscaped site before entering the restaurant.
The curved pathway is made from sadarhalli granite embedded in dense crushed stones with soil bed below.

The roof of the restaurant has cutouts so that the trees remain in their original form.
The centrally located water pond become the main focal point for the site

The vernacular material has been selected in the project which makes it closer to nature, unique, and affordable.
Sustainability –
Sustainability is always at the very core of each project. The site is located where summers the highest temperature goes to 29 degrees celcius. Which nears the comfort zone and makes it ideal to utilize spaces under the shade of trees.
We utilized the natural and low maintenance materials that works along with nature. The design has been made so that the site can evolve itself as per the new demands without altering existing structure. This helps in keeping carbon footprint in control.
The design around existing trees helps in the evolution of flora and fauna. And natural low maintenance materials help in reducing carbon footprints too.
All landscaping has been watered through rain water harvesting systems which are installed underground.
